Artist Statement

Exploration of ageism in contemporary life has recently captured my interest in photography. One cannot escape ageism and the skin embodies the most intimate of experiences and is a public marker of a person.

With the accumulation of marks, wrinkles, lines and creases, skin materialises the passing of time.

The skin is lived as both a boundary and a point of connection. It records one’s personal biography. The status of the inscripted body is imposed by the society to which we belong.

This latest work positions itself to raise consciousness of our preoccupations with ageism in contemporary culture and make the elderly more visible.
